2009 INNER-CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, America’s INNER-CITY centers have tremendous potential for economic vitality and sound quality of life; and
WHEREAS, in America’s INNER-CITY centers there are millions of citizens who suffer from a lack of economic development, financial services, access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, quality of education; and
WHEREAS, America’s public school systems has committed a gross injustice in its failure to provide inner-city children with a satisfactory education that will allow them to participate in the economic mainstream of American society; and
WHEREAS, in order for America’s INNER-CITY centers to generate economically self-sufficient citizens, small businesses must have the opportunity to operate and develop by having opportunities to engage in joint ventures with big businesses and partnerships, and access to capital facilitated by America’s financial institutions; and
WHEREAS, who reside and vote in these INNER-CITY centers, exercise their voting strength in support of candidates that address these issues.
Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Black Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles County requests that each presidential candidate do the following:
1. adopt the position that reinvestment and development in INNER-CITY centers will be a top priority in their administration.
2. takes affirmative steps to better educate themselves about the challenges and issues that their fellow Americans face in INNER-CITY centers.
3. encourage the private sector to develop innovative and creative strategies to examine business opportunities in America’s INNER-CITY centers and focus on strategic alliances, business partnerships, joint ventures and collaborations with inner-city businesses.
4. commit that their administration will convene numerous INNER-CITY Agenda Plenary Sessions to help explore solutions for INNER-CITY center revitalization.
5. develop an INNER-CITY center policy agenda that seeks to enhance the quality of life of each and every citizen of our communities.
